What makes an Optima Battery better than a conventional battery?

Each individual cell contains only two plates, one positive and one negative. These thin lead plates are wound into a tight spiral and separated by an absorbent glass material. This material is very thin allowing for the lead plates to be closer together. The close proximity of the lead plates enhances the flow of electrical current and lowers the batteries internal resistance delivering higher amounts of power.

The tightly wound cell locks the lead plates in place allowing the Optima to use a higher purity lead that requires fewer alloys to strengthen the plates. With higher lead purity the grid resists corrosion and lasts longer in high temperature environments and lowers the internal resistance.

With this design the Optima can use thinner lead plates allowing more winds per cell increasing the amount of surface area in the cell. This increases the amount of energy stored in the battery.
